Ngaruawahia

Last Week, Tuesday the year 8’s went to Ngaruawahia.  It was a pleasure going to Ngaruawahia Christian Youth for our final Year 8 camp.  Three nights and four days is how long we got to stay there for.

We had a variety of activities and our first activity was a hike walk.  Walking for about one hour my legs were aching and I was boiling hot I couldn’t walk anymore I thought to myself.  It felt like I had been walking for a day or more.

It was our last day so we spent our time wisely at Waingaro Hot Springs.  There were hot pools more hot pools and waterslides.  And first I headed off to the ultimate water-slide, it was awesome and I had a great time.

Things I liked about camp was everything but mostly to me was that we were all together as one.  Things I didn’t like was the horrible weather and the early fitness workout.

Day Of Disaster

Exploring the Pt England reserve every Saturday was our daily thing.  We would make adventures up and went for dips.  But one day we found ourselves in a lot of trouble.

Hello my name is Kelly and this is my brother Jack.  Today its the first day of holidays go on an adventure down at the beach and I also brought my camera with me to take interesting photos.

Standing on the edge of a cliff I saw something bizarre in the corner of my eye.  My brother was having a lot of fun so, I took a few photos of him and this is where all the trouble happened.  The flash from the camera had made him feel a bit dizzy, he fell of the rock into the water and smacking his head onto a massive rock, then out of the blues a crowd of sharks surrounded him.  What do I do?

He woke up panicking “HELP”.  As the day was getting darker I was becoming more afraid of the dark then I was of the sharks, so I came up with a solution I told him to calm down and I threw my long black hair into the water using it as rope.  The sharks looked hungry so I reached for his hand and I finally got him to shore.

She wondered aloud what happened to you my dear?  So we told her everything we could possibly remember with a huge smile on my face.  She laughed as hard as she could, yeah right:).  No but really mum and then I shut my mouth close and said " Haha yeah just my imagination.

Higher Hill's Palace

One hot sizzling summer’s day, it was the perfect day to go on an adventure.  There were two sheep’s Clumsy and Cheeky sheep.  They were both exploring the outdoors but one day they find themselves in double trouble.

The Higher Hill's Palace if was the most dangerous place in the village where goblins, dragons and even talking ogres live.  There were signs to warn them but no they didn't take notice of the signs and kept on walking.  Suddenly one goblin stopped them in their tracks and said “I sure do love sheep's” they ran as fast as they wasted no time, Clumsy falling in a ditch and Cheeky climbing the rocks not remembering Clumsy was even where.

Clumsy cried for help ”HELP ME PLEASE”.  Cheeky glanced back at him and in the corner of his eye he saw a huge goblin with his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth.  Cheeky give Clumsy his hand and in no time they find each other landing face first into a stone hard road.

They had been out on that adventure for seven hours and a half.  They never ever ever stepped foot on Higher Hill’s Palace again and told mum everything but, she did not believe at all.  And one day mum went on an adventure to Higher Hill’s Palace...... TO BE CONTINUED

Rainforest

Waking up to a brand new season, no cloud in site and flowers suddenly appearing “Yes” its Spring I exclaimed.  Looking out the window birds were singing lovely songs and chirping on the trees I knew this was going to be a peaceful day.

Oops I almost forgot to introduce myself, hello my name is Shaunie  .  Today would be magnificent day to take a walk through the Rainforest don’t you think?  Chucking my sandals and sun screen on I am ready to go.   My friends Katrina and Dallas were scaring me like crazy but, suddenly stopping at the entrance of the Rainforest I felt fear running down my spine and me entering a black hole.

We were walking so quickly my legs were aching, in no time I was back on my own two feet.  I happened to spot something very unusual in the corner of my eye and that’s when I stopped and said to myself is that a.... “TIGER”.  It was approaching us, we ran for our lives there was no time to look back, we found ourselves climbing the highest tree and thinking what are we going to do?

I suddenly just remembered I had fresh meat packed in my bag.  I had to be brave and face a fear so, I through the fresh, bloody meat down to the tiger and again we ran for our lives.  In no time we were out of danger and back at our checkpoint I cried with relief.

So today ended up being to worst day of my life, getting chased by a tiger wasn’t in any of my plans.  I'm more afraid of rainforests then I am of tigers so I highly recommend you to never ever ever step foot in a rainforest.

                                                Toy Story...

This is a brand new start to the term and we are also focusing on a new creative topic called Toy Story.

Throughout life everyone has their own special toy and every toy has their their own story behind it.  When I was two-three my first toy was Banana one from Bananas in Pyjamas but that wasn't my favourite toy. My all time favourite toy is my two teddy bears their names are Chocolate cupcake and Chunky Bear.

So what you're Toy Story?

Social (Take Two)

This week I am writing about our school social we had last week.  We had a social because we were fundraising for the year 8’s camp.

Fist pumping in the air, music and bizarre dancing“Yes” you may be asking Pt England’s very own social.  Last Thursday night, there was a school social held for our Year 7’s and 8’s in the hall.

Things we did at Social were awesome competitions, wicked dancing, extremely loud music and delicious food.  My favourite out of all of them was The Dougie Showdown it was Nezinli and Mary but, unfortunately there could only be one winner and that winner was... Nezinli.

Social’s are absolutely good moments be cause for some year 8’s we won’t all be going to the same college and it might be the last moments we will all cherish together.  Like me most of my friends are moving to Australia and only two of my best friends are staying.

I liked every single moment about the social it was absolutely fun and I highly recommend you to create your own social one day.

Xtramaths (Take Two)

This week we have been assigned to write about something so, I'm writing about Xtramaths.  Well, if you want to know more about Xtramaths or perhaps want to learn more about it read on PLEASE!

Xtramaths, is an online program that Room 18 has been using since the beginning of this year.  It was extremely difficult when I first started using it, however I am now (8 months later)experiencing the benefits of this challenging program.  I'm now on my third account and am able to recall all of my basic facts in 1.5 seconds.

Xtramaths has helped me an incredible amount and I’m absolutely positive that it will help you too.  It starts off with 3 second Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.  Then a little bit faster with 2 seconds and then extremely hard with 1.5 seconds but, in no time you will finish it thats a promise!

One thing I like about Xtramaths is that is has helped me so much. I highly recommend that Xtramaths will help you like it's helped me and I think it's really fun too!

Achieving my goals Take Two

This week I’m writing about Achieving my goals.

Managing to achieve all my goals is a really hard because to me it takes like 1 million years to finish my tasks. When I’m not sitting next to my friends I actually focus on my work but when I’m anywhere close to my friends I seem to be off task and have a little chit-chat with the people beside me. So this term I am going to try my best with a great attitude to achieve all my goals.

We have a lot of tasks to be finished in a day. Tasks like XtraMaths, Maths Whizz are the ones I get done and the individuals like Reading Eggs and Writing are the ones where I'm off task.  At the end of the day I really have to push myself because if Writing and Reading Eggs don’t get done I’ll teach myself to not finish my work off properly.

Sometimes we have a lot of work to do but we get through well... sometimes. By managing my time wisely I will be able to complete my work and school will be fun learning environment.

Thank You to my loving friend Tyler J for proof reading and editing my work.

Hello, My name is Cael and I am writing about my dearest friend Ngametua.  The reason why I am writing about this familiar thing is because it is our last year together and I will miss her and my other amazing friends.

Ngametua is a year 8 and she comes to Pt England, we are very good friends.  We met last year in Room 22.  We started playing with each other and chatting so, thats how we became friends very fast and hung out with each other.

Ngametua is a good friend.  She enjoys singing, adores spending time with her family.  To be honest she doesn't really like school but she likes spending times with her friends and she loves her school lunches “woop woop”.

I have other best friends like David, Tyla, Brooke and Andrea.  I am so blessed to have friends like these individuals, they have guided me through the tracks of life good and bad times, so thank you guys very very much.

Best Friends

I have many best friend so, this week I'm writing about my best friends I chose to write about this because they are one of the most important things in my life!

Friends make your life helpful and wonderful. Of course friends argue and have fights, that happens to everyone.  For the last years me and my friends have had a lot of fights and arguments but, in the end we all remain friends no matter what.

Things I like about having friends is you can talk to them, hang out with them and many more but one thing I like them is just singing them and having them as my friend. Things I dislike is that I hate when we fight and I hate when we can't spend enough time together.

I love my friends so very much. My best friends are the selected people here! Ngametua, Brooke, David and last but, not least Tyla. MY BEST FRIENDS!

Basketball

This week we have to write about one Olympic event that we are not very sure with but, want to learn more about.  So I have chosen to write about Basketball, basketball is not a familiar sports to me and I would like to learn more about it.  I have been researching and exploring the internet to find facts about it!

Basketball is a team sport, they have to shoot a ball through a basket hoop to score points while following a set of instructions and rules. Two teams of five players play on a court with a basketball and a hoop but, the thing is that the teams only have an amount of time to score then the games over and only one team can win.
A basketball hoop is made up of a rim 18 inches and 10 feet high mounted to a backboard. A team can score a field goal by shooting the ball through the basket during regular play.

Mr Barks and Mrs Nau have their very own Pt England Basketball team for boys and girls.  Last week Friday they had trials down at the Tamaki Rec-centre that meant people who did join what to another class .  They had about 1 hour and 30 minutes, they got given a chance to prove and trial that they strived to succeed a belong in the team. Since Mr Barks came to our school basketball has been an enjoyable and achievable sports that all of our old Yr 8's now our new Yr 8 boys love! So thanks heaps Mr Barks for coming to Pt England.

Since last Wednesday Room 18 have been doing Basketball skills and techniques with our basketball coaches.  We first learnt how to dribble the ball from left to right! Then we played a game dribbling the ball in one hand and pick the cone up with the other hand. It was really hard but my team gave it our all.

One thing I like about Basketball is learning new skills and technique with our ball.  I've learnt a lot about basketball for our past two session, I'm totally enjoying it.

Friday, July 20, 2012

This week we have been having a great focus on our writing.  We have been assigned to write another blog post, so I’m choosing to write about facts about London and the five Olympic rings.

What do the Olympic Rings stand for? Well, on Tuesday, Room 18 had about 30 minutes to research and explore the internet. I found amazing facts about the rings.  The 5 Olympic rings stand for each of the 5 continents involved in the Olympic games such as South and North America, Oceania, Asia, Africa and lastly Europe.

London, is located in England.  There are many things to see in London such as The Big Ben, the Tower Bridge, The London Eye and many more. The one that appealed to me the most was Big Ben. Big Ben is the nickname for the great bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. The clock tower holds the largest four-faced chiming clock in the world and is the third-tallest free-standing clock tower. It celebrated its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009.

I am enjoying learning about the Olympics, especially about the great city of London. I truly hope to visit some day.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Room 18 are all Writing about different things like perhaps the Olympics 2012.  I chose to write about the Olympics because it’s the main event going on this year.

Well, as you all kn0w it’s a new term and we have a new topic.  This term we have been assigned to achieve one goal for the London Olympics 2012 and I have chosen to become a faster runner and my friends are joining in to.

This term we have a new topic and our topic is based on the London Olympics 2012.  Our topic I think is going to be really cool because our topic can contain us doing sports and challenges.

The Olympic games is a huge international event during winter and summer, thousands of athletes participate in a variety of sports.  The Olympics are considered to be the most foremost sports competition and more than 20 nations participate in this event.

My favourite Olympics sports event is properly running and high jump I don't have a reason why I like those chosen sports.  Running is not my thing I do enjoy running but not long distances.

My best piece of Writing

Well, as you all know it’s nearly the holidays so, Room 18 was up for a mission to write the best piece of writing we could come up with and I’m writing about all the fun we've had this term.  So my story begins...

Going down to the Tamaki-Rec centre was an amazing experience because my team have taught me a lot of things like using cooperation, participation and partnership in everything we've done together.   There were ups and downs but, I loved every single thing we did there.  My favourite game we did was playing Hockey and Basketball.

This term we are studying Art Alive we had been assigned to our favourite place and now it has been displayed in our very own Art Gallery.  Everyone has been working very hard to get their art on display.  My favourite place I painted in Vincent Van Gogh’s style was the Pt England Beach and I think I did a very good job on it!

My favourite highlights of this term is going down to the Tamaki-Rec centre and meeting new people because, I loved playing new sports and games with our Yr 12-13.  I've meet a lot of new people in my new class and I’m happy I meet them.

One thing I did not like about this term was we didn’t go down to the Rec-centre that much so, I hope next term we can go as much as possible.
This week David and I are re-creating a post that I have done earlier this term. If you read on you might find some changers on this post.

On Friday in our second session Room 18 and 16 has been having a terrific time down at the Tamaki Rec-Centre mostly every Friday.  We meet up with our Year 12’s in the gym and they make up very pleasant games for us to play.

Last week we did Orienteering. We had to team up with one other person and my choice was David.  We got given a map and a pen and then we headed off.  I looked at the first direction closest to David and I had no idea what we were looking for.

After all of that running it was time to meet back at the gym.  I looked at how much letters we collected and thought we did a pretty good  job but could have done better, but at the end it was about having fun.

Things I really loved about going down to the Rec is meeting new people, playing terrific games and having fun.

Monday, June 18, 2012

This week, my class Room 18 and I have been assigned on a good piece of writing and artwork about our favourite place.

We have been given an opportunity to show our drawings or paintings at the Art Gallery where everyone from Room 1 and up their work will be on display.  Everyone will have their own different style.

I chose this picture because of the native trees and sand but, also comparing the glittering and shining sun seeing the reflection of the trees off the ocean “It stands out from the rest.”

Why is the Pt England Beach my favourite place while because there are very many value and enjoyable things to do like Swimming, Volley, relaxing and many more but, no that’s not my reason my reason is because I love hanging with my family and just chilling out it’s where all the good times we had were at.

The beach is amazing for any hot and sizzling day but, mostly in Summer my favourite season of the month.  So where's your FAVOURITE place.

The Indian In The Cupboard.

This term, my class has been given an opportunity to explore an enjoyable story - a novel study. “The Indian in the Cupboard” is the book that my group and I have been reading daily. I have been delighted with this story and hopefully you (my readers) will enjoy it too.

Our story begins with a birthday. It’s Omris’ special day and he receives a second hand plastic indian.  I know this doesn’t sound exciting, but trust me, it really is! This little plastic figure actually comes to life!

I think the story itself so far is a really good and enjoyable.

We read our novel stories from our Notebook, it’s really easy because you don’t have to flip a page you just scroll down.  If you have a problem or trouble you can have a conversation with someone in your group.
Last week we came passed an unfamiliar word, and that word was tantalizing.  What does tantalizing mean? Tantalizing means to torment with something desired but out of reach.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

On Friday in our second session Room 18 and 16 has been having a terrific time down at the Tamaki Rec-Centre mostly every Friday.   We walk down to Tamaki College to do some fun games and sports with the Year 12’s.  Our group got three funny and amazing girls.

Last week we did Orienteering. We had to team up with one other person and my choice was David.  We got given a map and a pen and then we headed off.  I looked at the first direction closest to David and I so we could find our first clue but, we had no idea what we were looking for ?

After all of that running it was time to meet back at the Courts.  I looked at how much letters we collected and thought we did a pretty ok job but could have done better.

It was pretty hard but, fun at the same time.  One thing I really liked about that session was running everywhere to look for the clues and figuring out what the letters spelt.

Thursday, May 3, 2012

Our topic that we are studying on this term is Art Alive.  Art can be described in a lot of ways like Drawing, Painting and many more things.

Last week we rotated to different classes for other Art themes and only had an amount of time.  Our first class was our very own.  We learnt about putting things into a different perspectives and also not pressing down on your pencil to hard.

Things I liked about rotating was learning about down Art skills and different art people.

Ben Carson

Dr.Ben Carson one brilliant life saver. In 1987 he succeed in his operation splitting up the Siamese's twins.

On it was a miracle because Pt England 5-8 and many other school’s were going to see him at the Center. As we got into the bus I was nervous but in a good way. When we got there we all waited for the manager to come lead us into the Tesltra Clear Event Center.

As Ben Carson come out everyone clapped for he and I said to myself “ We were actually meeting a really life doctor like Dr.Carson WOW”. I was sitting next to David and we were talking about his amazing American accent.

He told us about about some of his stories when he was a kid. Carson was born in Detroit and his was raised up by his single mother, Sonya Carson. He struggled in academically throughout school, boys in his class us to call him dummy and other mean names like that.

One time he actually had a pocket knife and was going to stab his cousin but luckily his cousin was wearing a metal belt and broke his knife and he said “If he wasn’t wearing it he would can been killed. He us to get in trouble by the police, the police had think that they were trapped but actually wasn't they didn't know how good he was at climbing the tall metal fence. It was about 1 hour and 30 minutes later and Ben had about 20 minutes more to talk to us and then he had to head off.

He said to us " The letter K stands for knowledge and The letter T stands for Talent everyone has a talent like singing, dancing and many more and you have to chase that dream and talent.

Venus the planet of hell.

This is one article that I was extremely excited for me to write about. If you want to read more about this article click on this link http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10789050

Venus is a planet from Hell because its atmosphere is extremely hot, deadly and heavy. If someone visits Venus they will risk being killed. Some people may think that Mercury is a planet from Hell but it actually isn't. This is because Venus has a hotter atmosphere than Mercury.

The atmosphere on Venus is 100 kms thick and is made up of 96 per cent carbon dioxide.

A day on Venus is equal to 243 days on Earth making it a planet from hell. The French space explorers discovered that the days on Venus are getting even longer.

Netball

Today after morning tea Room 22 and Room 18 went out for Netball lessons with Liz. We learnt a little bit of skills and then we learnt the Snake bite. We had two people on one side and a thrower on the other, the first person was defending the ball from the other person and bounce it down that simple.

Then we played a simple game of netball I enjoyed it because I got to learn more Netball skills.

Role Model

A good Role Model is someone who is kind and Responsible to other. This year being a year 8 is amazing because we are leading the way for the little kids.

This year I think Teari will make a good House Leader because she's caring and helpful at all times.

Blog entry

This year my goal is to be focus on my work at all times and be in the right place. I want to show the little kids how responsible and how much of a Role Model I am going to be. I am going to try my best at all sports and activities.

Being a year 8 to be honest is hard responsibility because all of the little kids are looking up to you as a Role Model. I am following my brother Rayden as a Team Leader and role model.
